HOPE FOR NEW YORK
Bowery Mission Women's Center
The East Side · Uptown

The Bowery Mission Women's Center, located on the Upper East Side, offers homeless women a nine-month residential recovery and transitional program that includes spiritual grounding, emotional equipping and economic empowerment through which their lives are transformed by the power of Jesus Christ.

OUR PARTNERSHIP
Volunteers are vital to the ongoing programming at the Women's Center. Volunteers cook and serve meals, mentor in the Career Center, lead recreational group outings, teach sewing, knitting, and art classes, and lead special events.
Our funding covers costs for nutritious meals, career center materials and supplies, activities and outings including museum visits and cultural events, and supplies for sewing and knitting classes.
Our volunteers infuse additional love, warmth, and joy in the lives of the women at the Bowery. They also creatively work with staff to find new ways to build relationships with the women during their time of life transformation.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

All opportunities are for female volunteers only and volunteer applications are required prior to serving.

Meal Service
6-8 volunteers prepare, cook, and serve a delicious dinner for the residents. All supplies are provided on site. 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month  from 2:30 to 6:30PM and the 4th Saturday of the month from 3:30 to 7:30PM.

Art Class
1-3 volunteers lead an art class for the residents on Wednesdays from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.

Activity Nights
Each month, volunteers treat the women to a safe and fun night out to activities such as going out for dinner, movies, or museum. Fridays from 6:30 to 9:30PM.

Sew, Knit, & Crochet
Volunteers teach the women to sew, knit and crochet, and this is a great opportunity to sit down and get to know the women while teaching them a new skill. Volunteers should have a basic knowledge of sewing or knitting. Every other Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30PM.

Weekend Walks
Volunteers spend a few hours with one or two women who are in the orientation phase and stroll around the neighborhood (grabbing some coffee, sitting in Central Park, walking by the River). Volunteers commitment is to serve once or twice-a-month on a Saturday or Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00PM.

Career Center
Volunteers are paired up with a resident to work with them one-on-one and help them prepare for their job search. Thursdays from 6:00  to 7:15PM or 7:15 to 8:30PM.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

See below to sign up for these opportunities.

“Through my time with these women, it has given me great joy to witness the effect that God’s grace has in a life that has been given a second chance. I love seeing hope awaken month by month in women who have hit bottom and are now trusting God with their lives. I love hearing their stories of how God has taught them beautiful things about who He is, and how deeply He loves them.”

Prayers for Vulnerable Women
August 15, 2017
Among women in New York City, single mothers are the most economically insecure. Additionally, women disproportionately face domestic violence. Because we serve a God who is strong and never forsakes, we lift up in prayer women across our city who are in vulnerable situations.
