The knitting and sewing program at the Bowery Mission Women's Center is a great opportunity to build relationships with the women in the recovery program and teach them a new skill.

Female volunteers teach the women to knit or sew, or to provide assistance as they work on projects. Volunteers will generally offer one-on-one support to the women and sometimes lead group knitting/sewing projects. Volunteers must already know how to knit OR sew and be comfortable teaching others. The projects tend to be fairly simple--scarves and hats for knitting, and creating bags or skirts for sewing.

Knitting and sewing happens every other Wednesday evenings. The volunteer commitment is to serve at least once a month.

Potential volunteers must complete an application for this opportunity, and so because there's an application review, it sometimes takes a few weeks to get plugged in. You'll be sent the application link after you click "request information" below.
