Chinese Christian Herald Crusades

Chinese Christian Herald Crusades serves the Chinese immigrant population through community and social services. The Herald Youth Center serves the children of this community. Through its after-school youth center, Bridge in the Gap Mentoring program, Herald Volleyball Club, English Study Buddies, Walk with U, Autism Support Group, Herald Gospel Camp, and other Camp Herald programs, CCHC seeks to give Chinese youths living in the Chinatown and Brooklyn neighborhoods the tools necessary to integrate into American culture and society. Our center also provides a safe environment for kids to go after school.

Volunteer Opportunities:
“Walk With U” - A Saturday program for special needs children ages 6-12. Every Saturday we have different activities for this group of children to help them learn educational and recreational things and occasionally, a field trip is part of those activities. We are looking for patient and caring Christian adults to commit at least 2 Saturdays to being with the children. Experience with special needs children a plus but not required. Most of all, these children just need you to love them. If you have a small group that can commit one Saturday a month for the year, please contact us! Dates: Saturdays 2pm-6pm. For more information contact 212-334-2033 x20.
English Study Buddies - Tutors are needed for immigrant students for one-on-one English tutoring. Many of the students are new to the states and have a difficult time in school due to poor language skills. Some Chinese (spoken) is helpful but not necessary. In addition, many of the kids just need to know that someone cares for them since many of their parents work long hours. Through tutoring, we hope to share the love of Christ with them by our actions. If you are willing to commit 1-2 hours every Saturday to help a child with their English language skills, this is for you. We can provide some training and reading/language materials. Dates: September-June, Every Saturday, 1-2 hours AM or early PM, no holidays. For more information contact Carmen Chau at , 212-334-2033 x20.
Herald Volleyball Club (Spring & Summer) - The purpose of the Club is to help boys and girls build character, self confidence and learn teamwork through sports as well as share the Gospel to them through friendship evangelism. We are looking for coaches who play volleyball, are active members of their church community willing to teach and encourage and also be role models for them. In addition to demonstration, drills, and scrimmages, coaches plus spend time in small groups with their teams and go through our season's theme based on a biblical value. Each session ends with a weekend retreat where the students will have the opportunity to hear the gospel shared through their coaches testimonies and formally through a guest speaker. For more information or to apply, please contact Ellen Hwang at or call 212.334.2033 x20.
Autism Ministry - A ministry for Chinese families with children on the autism spectrum ages 4-11 years old. Volunteers are needed for the Children's Play Group (while their parents have fellowship simultaneously) to help with games and activities. Children will engage in exploring art materials as well as interacting with peers and volunteers. These interactive games with music and commands will help them in developing gross/fine motor coordination skills and learn to cooperate with peers. Bible messages will be integrated into activities. Dates: 3rd Saturdays 1-4pm. For more information contact 212-334-2033 x20
BRIDGE IN THE GAP (BIG) Mentoring - The mission of BIG mentoring is to provide NYC's at-risk Chinese youth, typically from immigrant backgrounds, with caring Christian adult role models. The primary goal of the program is to offer a mentor to a young person to assist in their adolescent development and to express a redemptive Christian testimony.
Mentors are matched with one youth of the same gender. In addition to one-on-one meetings, there are also scheduled bi-monthly group field trips. We are looking for volunteers who will commit to a year-long program. Training and on-going spiritual guidance provided. For more information and an application, contact Manni Lee at
