Flexible Volunteer Opportunities:

Children's Tutors- After-school tutors are needed to assist students with homework. This is a great way to build meaningful relationships and speak into the lives of youth. Once a week from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. Contact Stephanie Farmer at or call 212-222-3256.

ESL Tutors - If you're interested in helping immigrants improve in their English skills, please consider volunteering as a tutor in this program.  Contact Charmaine DaCosta at or call 212-222-3256.

Mentors Needed! - New Song is looking for mentors to meet with teens on Saturdays from 12:00PM to 2:00PM. Mentoring takes place as a group and in addition, volunteers assist with tutoring and homework help. Commitment level: 2 Saturdays per month for one year. Are you health conscious? Share your knowledge! The Health and Wellness Program is looking for instructors in various alternative holistic modalities: fitness instructors, nutrition specialists, and cooking instructors.

Fitness Instructors:

  • Certified group exercise instructors for Yoga, Conditioning or Zumba 
  • Teach a series for 4-6 weeks
  • A one-year commitment is preferred
  • Early morning or weekend classes

Nutritionist:

  • Design and present themed nutrition workshop
  • Workshops can be one-time, multiple or a series
  • Saturday or Sunday afternoons

Healthy Cooking Instructors (1-3 people are needed to run each workshop):

  • Create cooking demos that are relevant to the Harlem Center for Healthy Living members
  • Prepare written materials
  • Coordinate schedule with host site
  • Shop for groceries within budget
  • Set up
  • Acquire necessary assistance
  • Lead the cooking demo
  • Clean up/break down
  • Workshops can be one-time, multiple or a series
  • Saturday or Sunday afternoons
