One year has passed since Hurricane Sandy hit New York City, wreaking havoc and destruction on neighborhoods along our coast.
Based on rough estimates by the City, we believe that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were displaced from their homes following Sandy. Many more experienced power outages, leaving them without running water, refrigeration, or heat for days or weeks.

Daniela Italo, a two-year veteran of our Annual Charity Bike Ride, says that the Charity Bike Ride (this year on Sept. 21) is her favorite HFNY event of the year.
"Biking through communities in NYC is one of the big ways that God changed my heart toward this City," Daniela says. "And what could be better than a challenging, but beautiful, ride with your NYC community, all supporting Team HFNY?"

Vicky Jeudy is a volunteer mentor with YoungLives, a branch of Young Life that offers friendship, mentoring, and parenting resources to teenage moms in New York City. Vicky mentors several teenage moms through YoungLives and helps with monthly club meetings, where moms get to socialize and have fun while their babies get the best possible care.

Chris and Courtney McNerney are awesome Hope for New York volunteers with Graffiti, a church on the Lower East Side.
Graffiti has programs running every day of the week that seek to bless those in need, including a weekly meal for those who are hungry, a clothing closet, daily GED and computer classes, two afterschool programs, Sunday services, and free lunch in the park.

Tell us a little bit about Major’s Minors. What is it?
It is a baseball ministry that seeks to reach inner city youth in Brooklyn that have an interest in playing baseball. We practice one day a week every Saturday for three months in the summer before we attend an international tournament in Pittsburgh for nine days.
