Group Opportunities

Get your group involved! Serve together by participating in one of the opportunities below.

You must register your group to serve by contacting the person listed for each opportunity, no drop-in groups permitted.

All volunteer opportunities listed below are for Hope for New York's church partners - Redeemer Presbyterian, Apostles Church and Trinity Baptist Church.


The Bowery Mission

Location: 227 Bowery Street (LES)

5-10 volunteers can help prepare and serve a Wednesday evening meal.  Wednesdays, 6:30pm-8:30pm. 


The Bowery Mission Transitional Center (BMTC)

Location: 45-51 Avenue D (LES)

5-6 male volunteers needed to take part in a monthly activity night with the men living at the BMTC.  Outings include bowling, meals, games, etc.  Last Wednesday of every month, 6:30pm-8:30pm. Groups should be willing to commit to serving once a month for 6 months.

5-6 male volunteers need to lead a discipleship Bible Study.  Experience leading small group Bible Studies and an understanding of homelessness and addiction issues are necessary.  One Wednesday a month, 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Chinese Christian Herald

Location: 48 Allen Street

Up to 20 volunteers are needed to help with games and activities for the Autism Ministry's Children's Play Group, provided during the autism family support group. Saturdays, 1-4PM.

The Father's Heart

Location: 545 E 11th Street (LES)

5-10 volunteers help prepare and serve over 700 breakfasts and distribute pantry items. 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, 8:30am-12 noon. 


5-6 volunteers help lead educational games at the "Homework Table" during KidZone every Tuesday during the school year from 5:45pm-7:30pm.

Location: 205 East 7th Street (LES)

Up to 15 volunteers needed to serve dinner and build relationships with the community that attend weekly Connections program. Last Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30PM. RSVP here for March 26.

5-6 volunteers lead outings one Sunday a month from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Groups should be willing to commit to serving once a month for 6 months.

Habitat for Humanity

Various locations

Up to 10 people can participate in monthly building projects or Brushes with Kindness.  Various Saturdays of the month, 9am-4:30pm.


Isaiah 58

Location: 180 Christopher Street (Bailey-Holt House)

Lead worship together every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month for people living with AIDS. Guitarists, pianists, and singers needed to volunteer.

Living Waters Fellowship

Location: 265 Stanhope Street, Brooklyn

5-10 volunteers help prepare and serve a community breakfast. 2nd & 4th Saturday of each month, 9:15am - 12 noon.

5-10 volunteers lead games during a youth sports program. Every Saturday, 10am to 12 noon. 

5-10 volunteers lead Friday night Kids' Ministry activities such as worship, Bible study and games.  Every Friday, 7pm-9pm.

5-6 voluteers lead kids in building models such as airplaines, etc. Every Saturday from 12pm-2pm.

New York City Rescue Mission

Location: 90 Lafayette Street (Downtown)

During the third weekend of each month, volunteers are needed at the New York City Rescue Mission to help pack and distribute food pantry bags to very low income residents.
Friday, 7:00pm-9:00pm; Saturday, 9:45am to 12:00pm.

Salvation Army

Location: West 14th Street

5-10 volunteers needed to assist with serving meals, greeting and speaking with guests, and assisting with clean-up. Wednesdays from 11:30am-1:30pm.

Teen Challenge

Location: 444 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn

5-10 volunteers help to plan and prepare a meal for the Teen Challenge students. Saturdays, 10am-2pm.  Groups should be willing to commit to serving once a month for 6 months.



East Side

The Bowery Mission Women's Center (BMWC)

Location: Bowery Mission Women's Center

Women volunteers prepare and serve dinner from 3:30pm to 7:30pm for the female residents living at the house in this Christian female recovery home. Groups should be willing to commit to serving once a month for 6 months.

Groups are needed on the 2nd Sunday of the month, 4th Saturday of the month, and 4th Sunday of the month.

DeWitt Nursing Home

Location: 211 E 79th Street

10-30 people can participate in or help lead a weekly worship service and build relationships with elderly residents. Sundays, 2pm-4pm.


Exodus Transitional Community

Location: 2271 3rd Avenue (between 123rd and 124th Street)

Volunteers are needed to help with group workshops of job readiness and financial planning. Dinner is provided. Mondays, 6:30-8:30PM

Here's Life Inner City

Location: 37-10 Skillman Ave (Long Island City)

Teams of 60 volunteers gather together throughout the year for various packing parties to sort and pack project supplies including:  Back to School Bag Packs in September; Boxes of Love for Thanksgiving in November; Homeless Care Kits: January and Easter in a Bag in April.  These are great one-time opportunities for groups to volunteer together.  More information available closer to events.

Inwood House

Location: East 80s & 2nd Ave

5-8 female volunteers help lead arts and crafts activities for pregnant or parenting young women. 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, 12:30-2:30PM. Females only.

NYC Relief Bus

Location: Harlem & South Bronx

5-12 volunteers serve on the mobile soup kitchen, handing out meals and other materials.  One Saturday a month, 10am-2pm.

Salvation Army

Location: East Harlem

5-10 volunteers are needed to help serve meals, greet and speak with guests, and assist in clean-up. Sundays, 11:30am-2:00PM.

Shiloh NYC

Location: Manhattan Church of Christ 48 E 80th Street

Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve meal for weekly high school ministry and leaders. Feel free to stay and spend time with the students! Wednesdays, 6:00-8:00PM

World Vision

Location: 885 E 138th Street, Bronx

10 people help sort and pack donated supplies for distribution to local partners and nonprofit organizations in the New York City area. 1st Saturday of each month 10am-2pm. 



West Side

All Angels

Location:  251 W 80th Street (UWS)

Up to 7 people can help prepare and serve a Sunday evening community meal.  1st Sunday of the month, 4:30pm-7:30pm.



Location: All Angels Church 251 W 80th St. (and Broadway)

Volunteers are needed to help provide meals for Young Life Capernaum club, a Christian ministry for teens with disabilities. If you'd like to bring a meal to club, we'd love to have you stick around and hang out with the awesome teens that come! Or, if you are unable to attend club you can have a meal delivered by a local restaurant.  

We are also in need of male volunteers to volunteer as leaders. Every other Thursday, 6:00-7:30PM

Gifted Hands

Location: Covenant House

Female volunteers are needed to help with art and crafts classes on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:30PM. Volunteers are also needed to offer childcare and play with the children of mothers attending the art class.

Operation Exodus

Location: 21 Wadsworth Avenue; 401 West 205th Street

Volunteers are needed to help mentor students K-8th grade with Operation Exodus at weekly Saturday mentoring program at their Washington Heights and Inwood sites. Mentors work in teams to lead classes, play games, and build relationships with students.

Pilot Program: Deliver Meals to Elderly

Location: 263 W 86th Street

Up to 10 volunteers are needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at the WEME Nutrition Program, and deliver them on foot to homebound elderly that live within walking distance of the center. Sundays from 9:30AM-12:00PM. (HFNY pilot programs are volunteer opportunities with potential affiliate organizations.)

Project FIND Hamilton

Location: 141 West 73rd Street (West Side)

Up to 5 volunteers are needed to help serve lunch on Sundays from 11AM-2PM.

St. Paul's House

Location: 335 W 51st Street

4-5 people serve breakfast after a gospel service for homeless men and women.  Monday-Friday, 7:15AM-8:30AM. 


5-8 people help distribute food pantry bags.  Every Tuesday, 9:00AM-11AM. 


5-8 people host a monthly movie night for homeless men and women. The last Tuesday of each month, 6:30PM-9PM.
