We’re excited to welcome The Parish of Calvary-St. George’s as a new church partner! John, Director of Spiritual Formation and Outreach, guided a virtual prayer gathering for neighbors who are food insecure. Here are two prayers that he shared:
Prayer for the Poor and Neglected
Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them.
We pray especially for all New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity to find certainty in where their next meal will come from and receive the resources they need. We also pray for parents to find resources to provide consistent food for their children and their families.
Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayer for Social Service
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son came not to be served but to serve: Bless all who, following in his steps, give themselves to the service of others.
We pray especially for: 9 Million Reasons, All Angels’ Church, The Bowery Mission, City Relief, Cru Inner City, Dream Center, The Father’s Heart, Graffiti Community Ministries, Living Waters Fellowship, Next Step Community Church, Redemption Red Hook, St. Paul’s House, The Salvation Army, Urban Hope NYC, and World Vision.
We ask that you grant them wisdom, patience, and courage, that they may minister in his Name to the suffering, the friendless, and the needy; for the love of him who laid down his life for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
