Fall Benefit 2024: Our City, Imagined
Every year, there are memorable moments at our Fall Benefit, and this year was no different!
Our guests gathered at The Lighthouse (Pier 61) on Thursday, October 17 to imagine our ideal city together. Here are the moments that delighted our guests.
Meeting Our Seven New Affiliates
To continue growing a movement of mercy and justice, we partnered with seven new affiliates that serve three boroughs! We showcased each affiliate in different ways throughout the evening and introduced them in the video below:
Host David Lee's Humor
David Lee, Assistant Pastor at Redeemer Downtown, and church planter of Redeemer Brooklyn was our host this year! He energized the room with his warm humor and his passion for mercy and justice work! As a long-time advocate of Hope for New York, David connected well with our guests and our speakers, who he led in a panel conversation.
Food Insecurity Collaboration with P.S. Kitchen, The Salvation Army, and City Relief
We had the opportunity to highlight a special food insecurity collaboration between three HFNY partners and advocates: April Tam Smith, Co-founder of P.S. Kitchen, a plant-based restaurant in Hell's Kitchen; Marcus Jugenheimer, General Secretary of The Salvation Army-Greater New York, and Josiah Haken, CEO of City Relief.
All three speakers shared how the generosity of one donor, in partnership with P.S. Kitchen, provided nearly 9,000 healthy and hot meals to the Harlem community between July and August. Also, 2,700 employment hours were created for P.S. Kitchen staff, with two employees receiving steady work and pay checks.
Reflecting on Our City, Imagined
Our event theme focused on Our City, Imagined, which invited our guests to consider elements of what God's kingdom would look like on earth. A city where all churches worked together, where no one was hungry or alone, where everyone felt safe and secure.
Together, our 200+ guests of donors, affiliate partners, and church partners enjoyed the evening and supported our $1 million giving goal to create a city we imagine! See more Fall Benefit 2024 photos.
