Meet Our 2024 #TeamHFNY Marathon Runners
Team HFNY is running in the 2024 TCS NYC Marathon for a fourth year! Meet this year's 10 #TeamHFNY runners who are getting ready for Sunday, November 3.
Amber Field
Amber is an avid runner who joined Team HFNY for a second year!
This time, she is our Team Lead, sharing advice and encouraging runners to train together.
A mom and member of Renaissance Church, Amber has also volunteered at The Bowery Mission Women’s Center, St. Paul’s House, and The Salvation Army.
Jeremiah Titone
Jeremiah recently ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon and is excited to run the full marathon for the first time!
A Redeemer Downtown congregant and Gotham Fellowship alum, he is a dedicated HFNY volunteer who also joined our Community Grants Circle program this year.
Passionate about supporting charitable organizations, Jeremiah has served at The Father’s Heart and led his church group to serve at City Harvest. He’s excited to choose HFNY as the charity he’s supporting for the marathon!
Katie Rader
Katie just reached her 10-year milestone as a New Yorker and is running the 2024 TCS NYC Marathon for the first time! She is also Volunteer Director at Reunion Church, one of our church partners, and where her husband, Russel, is the Lead Pastor. They both church planted during the pandemic! Reunion is also very dedicated to serving The Father’s Heart.
Running is a celebration of independence for her growing children and herself, and of the HFNY-Reunion partnership!
Mary Beth Nagengast
Mary Beth is on the mobilization team at HFNY and loves serving the city and encouraging our network to serve as well! Prior to joining HFNY, Mary Beth volunteered at Next Step Community Church, St. Paul’s House, City Relief, and Don’t Walk By. In her role, she enjoys working with church partners to mobilize their congregations toward serving and generosity.
Having managed the HFNY marathon team for three years, Mary Beth has decided to take the leap and run the marathon for the first time! (Fun fact: Her husband, Wil, ran for Team HFNY two years ago!)
Jacob Smith
Jacob has run five full marathons, including the NYC one in 2015! He is currently the rector of Calvary-St. George Church and has lived in NYC for almost two decades.
His friend, Matthew Hoskinson, who was part of Team HFNY for two years in a row, encouraged him to run the marathon—and they hope to run it together in the future!
Cara Herbers
Cara is a recent city transplant who felt God’s call to Brooklyn and found community at Redeemer Downtown. After meeting Mary Beth (who's also part of Team HFNY), a spark ignited Cara’s passion for volunteering!
She’s excited to run the marathon and be part of HFNY’s impactful movement to be the hands and feet of God in action!
Anita Sumargono
Anita is a dedicated volunteer with Knit Together, a knitting group that is a part of Gifted Hands. For Anita, who is a member of Every Nation NYC, volunteering and serving the community has shaped her relationship with the city, turning NYC into her home.
This year, Anita will celebrate 20 years in New York by running the marathon for the first time.
David Hahn
David has run four marathons, including the NYC one over a decade ago! While he’s currently based in California, David is a native New Yorker whose family both attended and served at Redeemer West Side; his wife was also a dedicated volunteer at A House on Beekman.
David is also ringing in a milestone birthday during this marathon year, and he’s dedicating it to both health and a celebration of life!
Stefanie Humphrey
Stefanie has run five full marathons, including the NYC marathon a decade ago! Three kids later, Stefanie is ready to run the marathon again during a milestone birthday year. Through the past decade, Stefanie has volunteered at The Bowery Mission, The Father’s Heart, and Avail, and she has also participated in our Community Grants Circle program.
As a Redeemer Downtown congregant, she is excited to support HFNY’s work in a new way. Seeing how all our affiliates serve New Yorkers is like seeing a picture of God’s body working for his kingdom.
Nicole Ruiz
Nicole moved to New York City a few years ago and began attending Redeemer Downtown. As a new mom, she began volunteering at Next Step Community Church, a transformative experience that showed her what truly caring for our neighbors looks like, and a place where she felt rooted in community.
For Nicole, HFNY has shaped her relationship with NYC, her neighbors, and with God for the better, and she will be running the marathon for the first time!
