Prayers for Those Struggling with Addiction

Each month, we focus our prayer efforts on one group of people in need within our city. For the month of October, we’ll be praying for those New Yorkers who are battling with or recovering from addiction. Below are some jumping off points to guide your prayers.

Won’t you join us in lifting up these neighbors of ours?


PRAY. . . 

  • for the many men and women recovering from various addictions in New York City: Pray that they would experience freedom and liberation from such debilitating diseases as alcoholism and drug addiction, and that they would find ultimate satisfaction in Christ.

    Lord, we pray that you would intercede in the lives of our neighbors struggling with addiction. Free them, O great Deliverer, from the hold these substances have on them. Would you draw them, instead, to Yourself and the unwavering grace you readily give to those who humble themselves and seek You.
  • that the prevalence of illegal drug sales in this city would decrease. Pray also that law enforcement would respectfully and wisely restrict the usage of illegal drugs.

    Father, we long to see a New York City where illicit drugs are increasingly less prevalent on our streets and in our neighborhoods. We yearn to see Your Kingdom come here on earth as it is in heaven. Would you use our law enforcement to help bring about this change, while simultaneously respecting the lives of all New Yorkers.
  • for organizations providing services for men and women battling addiction. Pray that places like Bowery Mission Transitional Center, New York City Rescue Mission, Brooklyn Teen Challenge, and The Bridge would have every resource they need to serve these people well, and that they might celebrate successful recovery with them.

    God, we lift up these organizations to you, and we ask that you would provide them with all they need to see addictions conquered and lives transformed. Would you daily encourage their staff members and give them the tools to be able to minister in word and deed to every beloved child of Yours who walks through their doors.
