Who Is Hope for New York?

Hope for New York (HFNY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a New York City, in which all people experience spiritual, social, and economic flourishing. For over 30 years, we have partnered with local nonprofits that serve vulnerable communities. We have built trust by providing resources—such as funding, volunteers, capacity building, and collaboration opportunities—that support their work.

We are committed to holistic care by addressing multiple need areas like homelessness, food insecurity, health, immigration, incarceration, addiction, human trafficking, education, youth development, and more. By focusing on these interconnected issues, we’re working toward long-term transformation across New York City. Currently, we partner with nearly 70 community-based nonprofits (aka our affiliates) that reach over 1,000,000 individuals each year. Each partner shares our faith values and is focused on helping the whole person to thrive.

How We Support Our Affiliate Partners

Volunteers are the heartbeat of HFNY. Each year, we connect over 3,000 unique volunteers with meaningful service opportunities, allowing them to make a tangible impact in their communities. We also partner with nearly 20 churches to empower them in serving neighbors in need, and our volunteers engage in activities such as serving meals and distributing groceries, mentoring and tutoring students, teaching ESL, and providing career advice. At HFNY, we make volunteering accessible for everyone, and we offer a range of flexible opportunities across the five boroughs.

Financial support is another key pillar of HFNY’s mission. Each year, we grant around $2.5+ million to our affiliate partners so they can sustain and expand their essential programs, cover vital costs and work needs, and continue serving more people effectively. We prioritize financial support for our affiliates to have strong impact and reach.

Capacity building is also central to our work. Beyond program funding and volunteers, we provide training, mentorship, and cohort learning to our affiliate leaders that strengthens their leadership and operational excellence. We organize consultant-led workshops, 1:1 guided meetings, and development courses that enable our partners to be more focused, resilient, and responsive to the needs of their communities.

Finally, as a network, community and collaboration is crucial to how we support affiliates. Our goal is to make sure no affiliate feels alone or isolated in the work they do. Instead, we want affiliates to find liked-minded leaders and form partnerships that further expand and strengthen their work. We allow affiliates to find and build community, which in turn leads to collaboration around new programs or outreaches that we help fund as well.

At HFNY, we meet immediate needs while working toward lasting change. We believe that creating a flourishing New York City requires the collective efforts of individuals, communities, organizations, and churches committed to improvement and making a difference. We remain rooted in Christian values of compassion, generosity, and justice, yet we welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs to join us in fostering a city where everyone can experience hope, belonging, and transformation!
