Time Commitment: 3-5 hours a month, including possible Committee Chair responsibilities. The Board meets monthly due to Federal requirements for the grant we receive.

Position Description -- Individual Board Member Responsibilities
- Commitments:
- The Board member will serve one three-year term, with the possibility of renewing for a second term at the discretion and approval of the Board.
- Should the Board member be required to leave the Board, he or she shall give the Board chair written notice (email is acceptable) at least two weeks before the next scheduled Board meeting.
- The Board member may also be removed in the extremely rare instance of conduct deemed contradictory to the Board and Beacon’s mission, vision, statement of purpose and guiding principles.
- As part of the whole Board, responsible for prayerfully hiring, evaluating and if necessary terminating the CEO, the Board’s only employee
- Praying for and supporting the CEO and the vision set by the CEO, including the Mission, Vision, Statement of Purpose and Guiding Principles, and strategic plan
- Praying for and supporting the Board Chair, including serving on committees at the request of the CEO/Board Chair and offer to take on special ad-hoc committees or assignments
- Attend all board and committee meetings and select functions, such as special events
- Be informed about the organization's health care and cultural environment, mission, services, policies, and programs
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
- Make a personal financial contribution to the organization (the amount is not as important as the commitment itself, even if it is a “widow’s mite”)
- Inform others about the organization (i.e. board candidates, potential donors, appropriate connections/networks, etc.) Suggest possible people who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization.
- Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies
- Refrain from making special requests of the staff
- Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization's annual financial statements
- Promote an atmosphere of selfless teamwork without personal agendas in Christ-like servanthood and service
- Praying consistently for the Board and for Beacon as it fulfills its mission and vision.

- Develop certain skills if you do not already possess them, such as to (if asked): cultivate and solicit funds, cultivate and recruit board members and other volunteers, read and understand financial statements, learn more about the substantive program area of the organization
