Habitat for Humanity NYC and Westchester County transforms lives and communities by building and preserving affordable homes with families in need, and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing.
Volunteers will paint the interiors of a church in the Bronx in observation of MLK Day. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Volunteers under 18 must have their volunteer waiver acknowledged by a parent or adult guardian.
Schedule:
8:45 am: Volunteers arrive, sign in, waivers, etc.
9:00 am: Morning meeting, site overview and Habitat NYC info
9:15 am: Break into groups and begin work
12:00 pm: Break for lunch
1:00 pm: Back to work
2:30 pm: Clean-up and complete Satisfaction Surveys
3:00 pm: Depart & Thank You!
What to wear: Any clothing that you won’t mind getting dirty. Long pants are required year-round to comply with federal OSHA regulations.
Shoes: Work boots are ideal, or shoes with a thick rubber sole and non- canvas top (No sandals permitted). This is MANDATORY to comply with City and State laws.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- No construction experience is necessary. Our knowledgeable Site Leaders will lead you in building the Habitat way! We supply all tools, hats, gloves and work belts.
- Water is supplied. Feel free to bring a personal water container.
- Bathrooms: We provide clean port-o-johns with hand sanitizer.
- Items such as bags, purses or coats will either be locked away or in the room where you are working (if applicable). Do not bring anything of great value.
- Lunch will be provided by the church.
- Cell phone usage is limited to breaks and lunchtime.

- After Jan 10, you will receive a link to complete your registration and a waiver using Habitat's Volunteer Hub website. You must complete your registration before your day of service.
