Support Neighbors at Bazaar in Harlem

About this Opportunity

The Bridge offers transitional housing and supportive programs for men and women with mental illness, histories of substance abuse, the homeless and persons with HIV/AIDS.

With the support from The Bridge NY, HFNY volunteers are setting up a free, come-as-you-go bazaar for residents, where Bridge residents choose items that meet their needs including scarves, hats, lotions, oral hygiene products, and more. While HFNY volunteers normally meet at Rita Berger House, the bazaar will take place at a Harlem Bridge shelter to serve the broader Bridge community in addition to Rita Berger residents. We’re excited for this opportunity to expand our reach and impact.

The event will take place from 1-5pm, with volunteers serving from 12:30-5pm.Volunteers will support in:

  • Unloading items at the Harlem location.
  • Sorting, organizing, decorating, and setting up tables for clothing and goods display.
  • Setting up food, snacks, and beverages for the event.
  • Meeting, encouraging, and guiding Bridge residents as they pick and choose items to take with them.
  • Photographing the event (any camera phone is fine!) and capturing short video snippets for archives.
  • Repacking leftover items, taking down tables, and post-event cleanup.

While the event is scheduled to end at 5pm, we may end early depending on residents' interest/responses.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
