Year in Review 2023: Reflecting on our Legacy of Hope

Legacy of Hope

This season, give to double your impact across our city!  Every dollar raised through Dec. 31 will be matched 1:1 up to $250,00 through the generous support of our donors! hfny.org/give

We can't believe the year is almost over! During our 2023 fiscal year (July 2022 - June 2023), we reflected on the legacy of hope that has always been a part of our DNA.

Since our founding over 30 years ago, we had one vision: that all New Yorkers experience social, spiritual, and economic flourishing through the demonstration of Christ's love. We have always wanted to provide resources to New Yorkers in need so that they know hope. Join us in looking back at our fiscal year.

1. Celebrating 30 years of hope

At our first in-person Fall Benefit since the pandemic, we focused on our 30th anniversary. Affiliate partners City Relief and Beacon Christian Community Health Center shared the importance of being a part of the HFNY network. We were also honored by a special video message from the late Rev. Tim Keller and Kathy Keller.

2. Honoring the late Rev. Tim Keller

We mourned the passing of Tim Keller, who founded HFNY, in May. Our CEO, Elise, remembered Tim and we invited several affiliate partners to share their memories of how he inspired

3. Expanding our partnership network

We partnered with one new affiliate, Code for Life, and two new church partners, Reunion Church and Joy Manhattan. These partnerships are essential in growing a movement of mercy and justice to serve more vulnerable neighbors. Code for Life teaches computer and coding skills to youth in East Harlem and the Bronx. Both Reunion and Joy Manhattan are passionate about caring for and loving marginalized communities.

4. Pivoting toward the Migrant Crisis

In just one year, more than 130,000 migrant neighbors have been transported to our city. Many of our affiliates began pivoting from the pandemic toward the migrant crisis and also continued to provide resources for over a year. Our network of supporters helped us fund a Collaboration Grant between City Relief and The Salvation Army, so they can increase provisions (food, clothing, shelter) and specific services (social, legal, translation) for over 9300 unhoused neighbors, including migrant families. To date, more than 200,000 migrants (and counting) have now arrived.

5. Distributing nearly $2.7 million in Program Grants

Without our network of supporters, we would be unable to provide annual grants to our affiliate partners. We strive to provide what we can, and the more we fundraise, the more we can sustain our affiliate partner programs in the coming years. During the pandemic years, we made the decision to provide extra funding for rebuilding and stabilization. We are now focused on providing ways for expansion and collaboration.
