Role Description:
Serving as a local YFC Advisory Board member is a wonderful opportunity for community leaders to live out their faith in Jesus Christ and advocate for young people through the use of their marketplace gifts and talents. Local board members “stand in the gap” for kids in tough places, along with our local staff and volunteers, by using their skill-sets to help support, guide and direct the ministry of Youth for Christ in their community.
Members of the Affiliate Advisory Board act to steward the mission of Youth For Christ on behalf of lost kids, our staff, partners, and the community.
The responsibilities of the board include, but are not limited to:
- Praying for the YFC mission locally and nationally
- Advocating for the YFC mission and purpose
- Supporting and evaluating the affiliate’s leader
- Engaging in the affiliate’s strategic planning process
- Supporting and evaluating the affiliate’s program(s) for mission consistency and effectiveness
- Assisting the affiliate’s leader in implementing the annual financial development plan
- Affirming and reviewing the affiliate’s annual budget
- Engaging in the affiliate’s board development activities toward board health and growth
- Recording and submitting notes of the affiliate’s board and annual meetings to the NSC Point of Contact.
Structure
Advisory Boards will be comprised of a diverse group of 5-9 members who meet at least quarterly and report to the NSC Point of Contact. Each board is comprised of: Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and members at large.
Committees
Because an Affiliate Advisory Board is not a governing body it may not be necessary for the board to operate with committees. However, as the ministry and board grows it may be advantageous to develop the following committees to accomplish their work efficiently. If instituted every board member should serve on one or more of these committees: Public Relations, Fund Development, Budgeting, Executive, Strategic Planning, Board Development, Volunteer Development, Program Development, and Assessment.
