Watch: "Just Mercy" Event (Plus Resources to Take Action)

In June, Redeemer Downtown asked congregants to watch the movie, Just Mercy, which is based on Bryan Stevenson's memoir, and then join a group discussion. To encourage their community to take further action toward biblical justice, Downtown and HFNY then invited three HFNY affiliates to talk more about criminal and racial injustice issues in NYC.

How Are Mercy, Justice, Generosity, Poverty, and Brokenness Connected?

HFNY focuses on mercy, justice, generosity, poverty and brokenness. I find those five words challenging. In the context of each of our lives they mean so many different things, but one thing does connect them all—and it’s that they impact each of us every day.

Seeing Blindspots (and Shalom) at Christmas

It was Christmas time, and my classmates and I sat in a circle on the carpet of our kindergarten classroom. That day, we had been asked to bring in a Christmas treat for everyone. We took turns distributing our gifts to each other, dutifully dropping our offering into the personalized bags that sat before each student. When it was my turn, there was a moment when I doubted whether there were enough gifts in everyone’s bag for me. But I quickly dismissed the thought and made my way around the circle, beginning with my own bag.

What Hebrews 13 Teaches Us About Being Outsiders

The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. — Hebrews 13:11-14 (NIV)

How Micah 6:8 Inspires Us to Serve New York City
