Father in Heaven, thank you for the hope we have in you, especially in a season where we are reminded of our need.
We come before you today as a city and a people in need of you. You are the God who sees every person, knows every name, and holds every broken thing in your sovereign hands. You are the creator of this city and of our lives. You have formed each borough, each street, and each person, and you care about all of it. We worship you, and we bring our prayers to you.
Thank you for sending Jesus into the middle of the brokenness, poverty, and pain for our sake. As we reflect on the great love with which you have loved us, let us extend that into our neighborhoods and across our city.
We pray for New York City. We lament the way that so many of our neighbors live without access to stable housing, without food on their table, without a consistent loving community, and without the hope of knowing Jesus. We cry out to you on behalf of those living in fear, isolation, or uncertainty. Be near, Lord God. May those on the margins experience the great comfort and peace of your presence.
We pray for the organizations, staff, and volunteers who are serving those in need each day. Give them strength when they’re tired, wisdom when decisions are hard, and encouragement when the work feels heavy. Remind them that what they do matters.
We pray for this church. May we be people with eyes to see our neighbors as you do. Give us generous hearts to give out of the gratitude and abundance of grace we have been shown. Show each of us the gifts that you have given to us that we may use to serve our city. May we use our time, resources, and community for the good of our city.
Lord, in the midst of brokenness, we look to you with hope. May your glory shine here in our communities. Illuminate the darkness and go before us as we extend your love and compassion across our city. We ask all of these things, Lord, for your glory and for the good of our city. We love you and praise you.
Amen.
